In Burundi and Rwanda pygmies descendants account for more than 60% of the population. They were assimilated to the Bantu and are now classified as "Hutu". The remaining pygmies who did not assimilate to the mainstream population as referred as "Batwa" and live in small communities.

There had been genocides that affected millions of Tutsi and moderate Hutu. Somalia suffered a civil war that resulted in a huge crisis in the country and mass refugees. Today, we can find Somali communities in Canada, United States, United Kingdom , Scandinavia, Saudi Arabia etc.
